Tim Piper, the Head of Australian Industry Group's Confectionery Sector and our State Head of Victoria, has been appointed President of the International Confectionery Association (ICA).

The two-year appointment marks the first time the presidency has been held outside of Europe and the US.

Mr Piper said it was an honour to be chosen.

"This appointment recognises Australia as an integral member of the ICA," he said.

"It will help Australia engage in global discussions, particularly around regulatory issues potentially impacting confectionery around the world.

"It provides Australia with immediate access to key decisionmakers and the ability to influence decision-making."

The ICA's purpose is to advance innovation and collaboration in the confectionery industry and ensure regulatory changes are viable and economic.

"We also need to facilitate the supply of sustainable, ethical and affordable ingredients to the industry and help consumers recognise the positive role that confectionery plays as part of a healthy diet," Mr Piper said.

He said he was passionate about ensuring confectionery was regarded as a positive and acceptable part of people's diet.

"Confectionery is a treat and should be eaten accordingly," he said.

"It's relatively affordable and brings pleasure to many people."

Mr Piper's appointment as President was made on 11 March at ICA's General Assembly, hosted by the National Confectioners Association (NCA) in Orlando, USA.
