Australian Industry Group Centre for Education and Training is grateful for the opportunity to submit its recommendations regarding the development of a revised methodology for the Australian Apprenticeship Priority List. At the heart of our submission are two clear principles:

• To keep the apprenticeship incentive system clear and consistent; and
• To ensure it adequately reflects and takes account of the economic decisions employers make when deciding to employ apprentices and trainees.

Our submission is based on the findings of Apprenticeships and traineeships: the employer perspective. This report, published in June 2025, represents the most
substantial analysis of the employer experience of apprenticeships and traineeships in Australia in many years. We refer to the report throughout the submission.
