Work-related training is a key form of lifelong learning that can boost productivity. In recent months, issues around work-related training in Australia have been in sharp focus.

In December, the Productivity Commission released the final report from its inquiry into Building a Skilled and Adaptable Workforce. It made a range of recommendations, including in relation to improving recognition of work-related training and supporting small and medium-sized enterprises to increase work-related training.

In November, the Centre for Education & Training released Learning that Works: Skills for today and tomorrow, highlighting the significant investment by employers in work-related training, alongside a need to aim higher. Employers, individuals and governments all have a role to play.

In a complex and ever-changing economic environment, a focus on boosting learning in the workplace is more important than ever.
