Australian Industry Group has welcomed the Premier's decision to pause the proposed work from home legislation while further discussions are held with business leaders.
The Victorian Head of Australian Industry Group, Tim Piper, said the decision not to push the legislation through Parliament this week provided an opportunity to engage further with the Premier and reinforce the case for abandoning the proposal altogether.
"I was very pleased to speak with the Premier this morning and discuss our concerns. He agreed to a further meeting and also agreed not to implement the legislation until 1 July next year," Mr Piper said.
"However, we believe it is in the best interests of the Victorian economy, our members and Victorian employees for the legislation to be shelved."
Mr Piper said there had been amendments that Australian Industry Group and other business organisations had been seeking.
"But the fact remains that this legislation would create another burden for employers at what is already a difficult time," he said.
"This is the first real opportunity for the Government to demonstrate that it wants to back and support business. It is a litmus test."
