This sample letter is to be used when agreement has been reached to permanently vary the ordinary hours of a permanent employee. Many modern awards require a written agreement to change the ordinary hours of part-time workers.
This letter can also be used as written record of an agreement to reduce an employee’s ordinary hours of work. In most cases forcing a permanent employee to reduce their ordinary hours will be a breach of the employment contract. It is prudent to ensure that any agreed variation is evidenced in writing to reduce the potential for future disputes.
