On 27 November 2020 the Australian Government introduced the right for eligible employees to take part of their initial 12 months unpaid parental leave entitlement (UPL) flexibly. On 1 June 2023, the amount of UPL which could be taken flexibly increased and an eligible employee may take up to 130 days of their initial 12 months’ unpaid parental leave entitlement as flexible unpaid parental leave (FUPL). The maximum amount available depends on the day the child was born or adopted.
