
Principal Adviser - National WHS Policy
Leigh has extensive expertise in occupational health, gained through roles spanning industry, government, and academic research. Leigh has PhD in Analytical Chemistry and as a researcher, he co-authored more than 20 peer-reviewed scientific publications addressing occupational and environmental health, with a particular focus on exposure to hazardous chemicals and dusts.
Leigh joined Australian Industry Group’s national WHS policy team in August 2024 and supports the consulting team by keeping us informed of the policy and representation work that is underway at Safe Work Australia and in individual jurisdictions across Australia.
A major focus of Leigh’s role in Australian Industry Group is to ensure that member views and interests, related to WHS and workers’ compensation, are communicated to government, regulators and other relevant bodies, when legislative and policy changes are being considered, and to initiate change where appropriate.
Leigh holds the Ministerial appointment for Australian Industry Group as a member of Safe Work Australia and the Asbestos Safety and Eradication Council.
Leigh participates in Safe Work Australia strategic working groups and in state-based consultation with WHS and workers’ compensation regulators and workers’ compensation scheme managers.
Leigh leverages his comprehensive understanding of WHS/OHS laws across Australia, to provide members with practical information and advice about their obligations, to aid compliance and assist businesses to achieve best practice.
Leigh holds full membership of the Australian Institute of Occupational Hygienists and membership of the Australian Institute of Health and Safety.
