Earlier this year, the Department of Employment and Workplace Relations (DEWR) consulted on the development of a Secure Australian Jobs Code that would use Commonwealth procurement and grants to encourage particular employment practices.
Following on from that earlier consultation, the Government has now released a draft Secure Australian Jobs Framework (Framework) and proposed amendments to the Commonwealth Supplier Code of Conduct (Supplier Code) for further consultation.
The Government is proposing to integrate the Framework into Commonwealth procurement processes by requiring suppliers to the Government, where requested, to demonstrate alignment with secure work, fair treatment, fair wages and conditions, work health and safety, equality and diversity, and local industry workforce capability expectations.
Submissions on the Framework and changes to the Supplier Code close on 21 October.
A briefing is being held on 15 October.
Australian Industry Group will be making a submission and is seeking member feedback on the practical implications of the proposed changes.
