An Employee Assistance Program (EAP) is a confidential counselling service provided by an external supplier and offered by employers to support the wellbeing of their employees both in the workplace and in their personal lives. In many cases, EAP services may also extend to immediate family members, depending on the employer's arrangement. Australian organisations typically enter into commercial agreements with preferred EAP providers to support their workforce. The level of support offered can vary, but a common arrangement allows employees to access EAP services up to three times per year at no cost to them.
