On 3 July 2026 we published a member advice (NAT 032/26) regarding passage of the Coal Mining Industry (Long Service Leave) Legislation Amendment Bill 2025 through Parliament. Royal Assent was granted on 6 July 2026. The amendments will commence on 1 September 2026.

There is a limited window of time for employers who wish to access the relief provided for in the legislation. Employers wishing to participate have until 2 November 2026 to submit a notice of intent.
